Minimal Stimulation IVF

Minimal Stimulation IVF” and put a link to the following paragraph: Minimal stimulation IVF, also known as “Mini-IVF”, is a variation of IVF in which the ovaries are not stimulated as aggressively as they are in standard IVF. Ovarian stimulation in mini-IVF is usually with an oral drug, either clomid or letrozole. The goal is to produce fewer eggs, usually 2-3, for retrieval and fertilization. The advantages of minimal stimulation IVF are decreased medication costs, fewer office visits for monitoring and lower risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. The main disadvantage is having fewer embryos available for transfer and to freeze. Patients who do not want to freeze embryos or who do not want to have a large number of embryos frozen may consider minimal stimulation IVF. Women who are anticipated to be poor responders to standard IVF stimulation based on age, ovarian reserve markers or past IVF response may also be candidates for minimal stimulation IVF. In these patients we can usually obtain a similar number of eggs with minimal stimulation as we can with full stimulation.
